well if he signs at 3 * 10 or 5 8 10.5 there would be no 4-firsts. It would really (frank) the leafs over.

How often do young first round picks (especially late ones) end up being 94 point players before the ELC expires. The Leafs themselves have gone quite some time before getting one, so the thought of giving up 4 1st rounders to get a superstar isn’t that absurd. Even Matthews has yet to approach the 94 point mark, and he is suppose to be a generational player. Just look at the NYR last 4 1st rounders in Kravtsov, Miller, Lundkvist, and Anderson. I’m sure they would gladly trade all four for Marner. Several other teams would as well. |

Marner was the best player on the Leafs last year. Sorry Ek, if Skinner is worth 9 million a year, Marner is worth 11 per all day long. He may not be top 3....but he’s easily in the top 10....and he needs a new contract now....not 3 years ago, so today’s market prices do matter. If teams offer sheet him, which I can’t see the player wanting to sign it, the Leafs would match. Marner won’t be going anywhere. 7 years....75 million. |

Why would Marner take 9.5-9.75 when Skinner just got 9?
Marner will get 10.5 minimum IMO. |

if you are a good team, I would rather have marner for 7 years then 4 first round picks in the 25-31 range
if there is no offer sheets this summer, eliminate them in the next contract - homiedclown
Depends on the team, having Marner doesn't guarantee you finish in the top 5 for the next 4 years. I'd say it's more realistic that they would get a few picks in the 10-15 range, maybe a top 10 and then a lower first rounder. Still not a good trade off for Marner but better than 4 in the bottom of the first round.
Another issue to consider would be that they would get 4 first rounders as well as 11.5 million in cap space. There are a few UFA dmen that could go a long way in making the team better like Myers or Gardiner etc. Maybe even Karlsson. For arguments sake, would people be happy trading Marner for Karlsson and 4 first rounders? Again, depending on the team, and still probably not, but doesnt look as bad if it works out that way. |

This would make more sense for Trouba sense he’s a UFA next year. Leafs could easily match an offer and trade him next the year after |

I think goals are the one thing the Leafs can say Skinner does to balance out the numbers between the two. Marner still probably gets 10.5 but if that's the case then Tkachuk is going to get around 10+ as well. |

No Leaf nation has it from Dubas himself .. MM is going to sign for 8 years at 7 million so they can fix the D... Hometown discount, and then they're all going to hold hands and sing We the North.... |

Unless Marner does what Kucherov did and sign a bridge-deal I can't possibly see how Toronto can re-sign Marner without having to sacrifice defense and depth. |

There's a difference between UFA and RFA.
I also think he'll be in the same cap hit area though (10-10.75). Just saying I don't really think the Skinner contract will have anything to do with it. |
